Before the season even started, the 25th of March was always going to be a special day in our diaries. It was the last game of the official season (due to a frozen OMT pitch, we still have to play a game on April Fools Day), and earlier in the season it was looking that our championship could have gone all the way to this particular day.
It was also the day of the club's EOSD - the End of Season Dinner, but more about this later as the M3s were once again the most productive side when it comes to pulling hockey women.
Most of us gathered at fortress Brent X to witness the M1s turn on the style against Maidenhead and some truly champagne hockey was displayed. If I am not mistaken, their victory means that the High Wycombe 1s (Jeremy's team) has now been relegated. Jeremy, our thoughts are with you!
The day started early for a few of us. Bruce, Gareth, Ade and myself gathered at the Cumberland at 10.30 for breakfast. Not a bad affair as it goes. Bruce's language was turning the air blue as several parents with children looked on in disapproval. He was silenced with a subtle "oi Bruce, watch your mouth, there's c*nt about". Bruce and I went through the events of the previous evening's St Patrick's day shindig in the Haverstock Arms. Considering we only had the permitted three pints, we were both astonished to draw mainly blanks. Although neither of us could forget the enduring image of the club's newest love birds necking all night (who's that chav in the tracksuit?) - Julian would have been proud. Oh, and Bruce's wallet dance.
Our game against Aylesbury 2’s was a crucial match and we got off to a great start in the cold with Adriaan getting the first goal thanks to a deflected short corner. The second was from open play and followed a nice period of attacking play, Jody finishing calmly from near the penalty spot. But Aylesbury rallied and got one back, we went in at half time 2-1 up.
