Season round-up 2005/6
After our unbeaten title run last season the Men's 1st XI finished their debut season in the Southern Premier League comfortably in mid-table. As a result of remaining undefeated for all of 2004/5 spirits were high at the beginning of the campaign and early results were not too discouraging, however, the first half of the season was very much a learning curve: some points won against the promotion chasing teams and matches lost to weaker sides.
13 points at the break left us very much in the relegation zone and the early signs were not good, 1 point out of the first 3 matches after Christmas and 3 key players injured for extended periods. However, the team grew in stature and fought hard in the remaining matches to record some memorable victories in the process. A 5-2 victory away at Trojans with a bare-bone 11 stood out!
For next season we are now looking forward to consolidating our position and playing with more consistency. The captaincy of the 1st XI will be handed by Adam Ross for 2006/7, as I have felt that after 3 years it's time for a change.
Congratulations should go to Darren Cowie, who represented Trinidad & Tobago at the Commonwealth Games, a first for the club. Our player of the season: Sheldon Braithwaite; Most improved: Fergus Parker; Special captain's award: Adrian Brooker.
