Mens 1s
The Mens 1st XI have represented the club in the South 1st XI Premier League Division 2 since the 2005/06 season having been promoted from the MBBO Premier Regional league (undefeated and smashing 98 goals in the process!).
We are always looking to attract the highest calibre of players in order to push the club forward and urge you to get in contact if you are interested in playing a good standard of hockey without the added pressures and commitments of playing in the National Leagues.
You’ll soon find yourself freezing cold, standing in the middle of a pitch in Brent Cross, absolutely exhausted and wonder why you’re enjoying yourself so much…!
Round-Up 2007/2008
The 2007/2008 was an excellent season for the Mens 1st XI with the club achieving its highest ever league finish. A talented squad, combined with a fairly average coach and led by a phenomenal captain, played the most attractive hockey in the league and found themselves entering their final fixture needing a draw for promotion and a win for the title. What happened on the final day of the season does not need to be mentioned, but apart from that it was a fantastic season!
Round-Up 2008/2009
The 2008/2009 season started with disaster as several key players decided to retire or flirt with other clubs, but as soon as they all realized WHHC is by far the best hockey club in London, they all returned and sparked a charge towards promotion. With ten games to go, the side was in full flow, at full strength and cruising to promotion…
until they got thumped out of nowhere by relegation-threatened Ashford. Three more defeats (in a row) later and the season was all but over. Except for the fact the whole of the top of the league was suffering from “Tom Petty” syndrome. The knock-out blow came from Gore Court three weeks from the end of the season, who in turn lost the week after that to end their own hopes.
All in all, a rollercoaster ride; we didn’t go up, but we tried.
